Black-footed Ferrets Conservation Foundation
The Black-footed Ferret Conservation Foundation (BFFCF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit representing wildlife conservation organizations, accredited zoological institutions, Native American tribes, livestock industry groups, western U.S. landowners and federal/state agencies dedicated to the recovery of one of North America’s most iconic and endangered species, the black-footed ferret. The primary mission of the BFFCF is to raise awareness of black-footed ferrets through public education and outreach and to support the recovery of the species through advocacy and fundraising. |
Historically, black-footed ferrets occurred across 12 western states (Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming). Today, there are less than 300 individuals remaining in the wild. The successful recovery of the black-footed ferret in the wild requires a strategic balance of genetically diverse captive breeding, habitat protection, non-native disease mitigation, and supportive land managers.
