Following a black-footed ferret conference in Denver, Taylor said the BBFRIT education and outreach committee (EOS) will develop ways to further educate and inform the public of the recovery of the black-footed ferret, one of the nation's most endangered species. Last year the Arizona Game and Fish Department providing funding for the EOS to establish a black-footed ferret site that carries information on the national recovery project. It can be viewed at www.blackfootedferret.org. Cooperative agencies within the BBFRIT will continue to maintain that web site. The Arizona Game and Fish Department also has a black-ferret web page within the AGFD home page which highlights the Arizona project. Taylor designed and edited a black-footed ferret brochure in 1998 that was funded by the Arizona Game and Fish Department's Heritage fund. That brochure is circulated nationally in schools, libraries, captive breeding facilities, cooperative agencies and zoos. Taylor said a video and slide show portraying the black-footed ferret recovery is also under development by EOS. Black-footed ferrets are one of three endangered species reintroduced back into the wilds of Arizona during a 22-month period of time. They have also been reintroduced in Wyoming, South Dakota, Montana, and will be introduced in Utah. |
